In the logistics sector, we find warehousing which is defined as follows :
1. Upstream of production, it is supply chain management, i.e. the management of raw materials and supplies on production lines.
For each of these services, upstream or downstream of production, this consists of :
- receiving the goods
- quality and quantity control at warehouse entrance
- receiving the order preparation instructions
- preparing the orders or picking or kitting
- packaging and labelling
- quality and quantity control at warehouse exit
- preparing output and transport documents
- loading onto trucks or stuffing
- Just-in-time delivery to production lines
Each stage of this logistics chain is controlled by a computer application or WMS (warehouse managing system).
2. Downstream of production, it is the management of finished products and delivery to final customers.
- receiving the goods
- quality and quantity control at the warehouse entrance
- receiving the shipping and transport orders
- preparing the orders
- packaging, labelling
- quality and quantity control at warehouse exit
- preparing output and transport documents
- loading onto trucks or stuffing
- delivery to the final customer
Each stage of this logistics chain is controlled by a computer application or WMS (warehouse managing system).
